About
Geyser services for Pretoria homes
Your geyser is one of the hardest-working appliances in your home, and in a Pretoria winter, you notice the moment it stops. Whether it is a new installation, a faulty element, a leaking tank, or a thermostat that has packed up, we get your hot water sorted quickly and correctly.
Every geyser installation we do complies with SANS 10254 (the water installation standard) and SANS 10142 (the electrical standard). That means proper drip trays, pressure valves, vacuum breakers, and a dedicated electrical circuit with earth leakage protection. We issue a COC for the electrical portion of every geyser job, no exceptions.
We have been installing and repairing geysers across Pretoria for over 30 years. We know the common issues in each suburb, from the hard water in Garsfontein that eats through elements faster, to the older plumbing in Brooklyn and Arcadia that needs careful handling during a replacement.

Geyser types
Three geyser systems we install
Electric, solar, or heat pump. We help you pick the right one for your household.
Electric Geyser
The standard in most South African homes. A 150-litre electric geyser costs R4,500-R7,000 installed, depending on the brand and your plumbing setup. They are reliable, well-understood, and parts are readily available. The downside is running cost, a geyser accounts for roughly 40% of your electricity bill.
Solar Geyser
Solar geysers use roof-mounted collector panels to heat water using sunlight. In Pretoria we get around 300 sunny days a year, so they work well here. A flat-panel solar geyser system costs R12,000-R20,000 installed. Payback period is typically 3-4 years through electricity savings.
Heat Pump
Heat pumps extract warmth from the air to heat water, using roughly one-third the electricity of a standard element. Installation costs R15,000-R25,000 depending on size. They work in all weather conditions, including Pretoria winters, and are becoming increasingly popular for larger households.
Common problems
Geyser issues we fix
The five geyser faults we see most often in Pretoria homes.
No Hot Water, Element Failure
The heating element inside the geyser burns out over time, especially in areas with hard water like parts of Pretoria East. Signs include cold water despite the geyser being on, or the earth leakage tripping when the geyser heats. Element replacement costs R1,200-R2,000 including the part and labour.
Lukewarm Water, Thermostat Fault
If your water is warm but never properly hot, the thermostat is likely faulty. It may be stuck at a low setting or failing to signal the element to heat. A thermostat replacement is a quick job, typically R600-R1,000 all-in.
Water Dripping from Overflow
The T&P (temperature and pressure) valve releases water when pressure builds up inside the geyser. A small amount of dripping during heating is normal. But if it is running constantly, the valve may be faulty or the incoming water pressure may be too high. We test both before replacing anything.
Geyser Leaking from the Tank
If the geyser tank itself is leaking, it is usually corroded through and cannot be repaired. This means a full replacement. Do not ignore a leaking geyser, a burst can cause serious water damage to ceilings, walls, and floors. Switch it off at the DB board and call us.
Geyser Tripping the Earth Leakage
This is usually caused by a failing element that is leaking current to earth through the water. It is a safety hazard. We test the element insulation resistance to confirm the fault before replacing it.
Install process
How a geyser install works
Five clear stages, typically in a single day.
Assessment & Quote
We inspect the existing installation, check the plumbing routes, electrical supply, and roof space. You get a clear quote covering the geyser unit, installation, all fittings, and the COC.
Drain & Remove Old Geyser
We isolate the electrical supply, drain the old unit, and safely remove it. If the geyser is in the roof, we take care with ceiling access to avoid damage.
Install New Geyser
The new unit is mounted on approved brackets, connected to the plumbing, and fitted with a drip tray, vacuum breaker, and T&P valve as required by SANS 10254.
Electrical Connection
We connect the geyser to a dedicated circuit with the correct cable size, circuit breaker, and earth leakage protection. If a geyser timer is requested, it is wired in at this stage.
Testing & COC
We fill the geyser, check for leaks, test the electrical connections, and verify the thermostat and element are working correctly. A COC is issued for the electrical installation.
Safety standards
What every compliant install includes
Four safety fittings that are non-negotiable on every geyser we install.
Drip Tray
Required under every geyser installed indoors. Catches water in case of a leak and drains it outside through a pipe. This is a SANS 10254 requirement and non-negotiable on any new installation.
T&P Valve (Temperature & Pressure)
Releases pressure if the thermostat fails and the water overheats. Without this valve, the geyser becomes a pressure bomb. We check it on every installation and replace it if the existing one is corroded or seized.
Vacuum Breaker
Prevents the geyser from collapsing inward if the water supply is suddenly cut off (for example, during municipal water interruptions in Pretoria). A small but critical fitting.
Geyser Timer
Not legally required, but strongly recommended. A timer lets you schedule heating to off-peak hours, reducing your electricity costs by 10-15%. We install them on the DB board, clean, neat, and easy to adjust.
